Some things are sisters, if you know how to look at them

like

a wildfire sun and a new penny

like

snowy boughs and salamander feet

like

driftwood and bone

like

California and a weird poop

like

a bird’s egg and a scoop of mint chocolate chip

like

birch trees and waiting figures, after dark

like

the spread blanket of the land below

and

the quilt that shelters your sleep.
