Abstruse Goose: Creation

Probably not God’s fault, but very few people understand that business of hidden dimensions in string theory.

  1. So whose fault is it then?

If I were God (which I am, of course, we all are), I’d be thinking “numbers first, obviously, then music; or the other way round? – heck, same thing …”, then homing in on primes, which are the only ones that count (sorry!), all the rest being mere derivatives … So if I’m going to build this thing on a prime number, it might as well be the lowest interesting one I can find, let’s see, 1, 2, 3, 5, 7 … boring. Eleven – now that’s worth a try. I can always change it if it doesn’t work out …

  2. One of the many reasons I’m not a scientist is that I’m innumerate. So I don’t understand a thing you’re saying. That’s pathetic, isn’t it. I do deeply appreciate your saying it though.

  3. I’m certainly not a scientist, nor am I particularly numerate. I just find all that stuff fascinating, and was joking around the fact that eleven’s a prime number. You do know what one of those is, Ann? 😉

  4. Ok, I sort of know what a prime number is — nothing goes into it evenly — but I don’t know why that’s interesting.
